Police investigate sexual attacks

May 17, 2008, 6:09 pm

Police are investigating two separate sexual attacks on women - one in Palmerston North and the other in Christchurch.

In Palmerston North they are looking into the sexual assault of a 17 year old hitch hiker. It happened on the corner of Main and Upper Main Streets. Detective Sergeant Simon Harrison says the woman was hitching a ride out of the city between 11 and 12 last night when a vehicle stopped opposite her. The occupants got out and one of them dragged her from the roadway. ESR scientists have been at the scene investigating today.

Police in Christchurch are looking into the alleged rape of a woman in the early hours of this morning. Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas says the offender is known to the woman. Police expect to release more details in the morning.
