An Invercargill judicial officer appeared in court yesterday to face sex charges against young boys and a bull mastiff dog.
Raphael Giuseppi Caccioppoli, 37, faced 17 charges in Invercargill District Court, including alleged indecency and sexual violation offences against boys aged under 13 dating back to 1990.
Charges related to alleged offending in Wainuiomata, Ngaruawahia and Christchurch, The Southland Times reported.
A charge of doing an indecent act to a bull mastiff related to an incident near Invercargill.
Police didn't oppose bail but succeeded in having Caccioppoli's passport taken from him, and in getting an order for him not to be alone with children aged 13 or under and not to associate with any of his alleged victims.
Caccioppoli was remanded on bail to reappear in court on June 13 and his lawyer said pleas to the charges would be considered.
A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said Caccioppoli had resigned from work as soon as the allegations came to light.
