US TV network NBC has smashing news for fans of Smash, which screens in Australia on pay-TV channel W.
The network said on Thursday its musical drama series has been picked up for a second season.
Smash is a much-heralded blend of backstage insights and song-and-dance numbers that debuted in the US in February.
While it's not a ratings smash in America it has won critical praise and a healthy-size audience averaging 7.7 million viewers.
Series stars include Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and Katharine McPhee as players in the unrelenting world of Broadway theatre.
Smash screens Mondays, at 4.30pm on W.
