Gotye still on top on US charts

AAP, The West Australian May 11, 2012, 11:53 am

Gotye has continued his assault on the US Billboard charts, with Somebody That I Used to Know becoming the first song to place at number one on the Hot 100 as well as topping the Alternative Songs chart and two dance rankings.

Billboard reports the Australian music star's Somebody That I Used to Know, featuring Kimbra, is now leading the Hot 100 for the fourth week in a row, but it's multi-genre appeal has also seen it top the Alternative Songs airplay chart as well as Dance/Club Play Songs and Dance/Mix Show Airplay.

It's the first song to top all four tallies.

Only two other songs have managed to hit number one on the Hot 100, Alternative and Dance/Club tallies - U2's Discotheque (1997) and New Order's Regret (1993).

With 10 weeks leading the Alternative Songs ranking, Gotye has also now become the longest-reigning number one by a soloist in the chart's 23-year history, overtaking Everlast's What It's Like (nine weeks in 1998-99).
