Workers aged over 25 who have been laid off will be guaranteed training under an agreement expected today between Kevin Rudd and the Premiers.
Under the compact, up to 124,000 people in that age group who have lost their jobs would be entitled to a training place subsidised by the Federal Government.
The measure would add to the same guarantee given to retrenched under 25s by the Council of Australian Governments in April.
It will come before the Prime Minister and State leaders at a COAG meeting in Darwin today.
