Cars seized under WA's anti-hoon laws

The West Australian June 21, 2009, 1:45 pm

Two men have been charged over separate hoon incidents last night, including one in which a car spun its wheels across three lanes of traffic in Midland.

A police spokesman said that at 6.40pm police had approached two Mitsubishi Lancers as they were about to leave the car park of Bunnings on Great Eastern Highway.

One of the Lancers accelerated heavily out on to the highway, spinning its wheels. It then changed gears and continued to accelerate while spinning its wheels across several lanes.

Police, who took video footage of the incident, stopped the car and seized it for seven days under the hoon legislation. An 18-year-old Swan View man was charged with reckless driving.

At 10.10pm in Swan View, a police car turned off Great Eastern Highway on to Old York Road and the officers inside spotted a Holden Commodore SS sedan approach the intersection.

The Holden then accelerated through the intersection, causing its rear wheels to spin and its back end to sway out to the right.

Police turned around and stopped the vehicle, which was also seized for seven days.

The 20-year-old driver from Thornlie was charged with the hoon offence of excessive noise.
