In a blow to Boeing, Qantas, the biggest airline customer for the delayed and troubled 787, has cancelled 15 of its 65 orders and will not receive its first plane until 2013 — five years later than originally contracted.
The move will put on hold low-cost subsidiary Jetstar's European expansion plans, while delaying Qantas' replacement of its ageing 265-seat 767 fleet that operates on major domestic routes such as Perth to Sydney.
