Hot dance bound for Broadway

It's ballroom dancing, but ballroom as you have never seen it.

Perth choreographer Jason Gilkison's Burn the Floor will stop in his home town for two weeks at the end of its Australian tour before the company heads to Broadway for an open-ended run at the jewel box LongAcre Theatre.

Burn The Floor features a host of dancers who will deliver everything from a classic waltz to the tango and jive, accompanied by singers and percussionists on a journey through dance.

Gilkison, who has made guest appearances on both Australian and US versions of So You Think You Can Dance, said he was proud that a group of ballroom dancers had the opportunity to captivate Broadway.

Burn the Floor's Australian producer Harley Medcalf said that to be among the handful of Australian productions to play Broadway was a "dream way beyond description".

Burn the Floor is showing at the Regal Theatre until July 12.
