A fire department official says at least eight people have been killed in the collapse of a three-storey building in the Nigerian capital.
Lagos state director of fire services Adedeyo Aderemi says 42 people have been rescued from the rubble and are receiving medical attention.
Sunday Pius, a survivor, says he was awoken about 3am on Sunday by a loud, frightening sound. He rushed outside and realised the building was falling down. He says he helped pull out five bodies.
Hasty construction and lax regulation has meant many buildings in West Africa are structurally unsound.
