The Sound Relief concerts have been nominated for a prestigious entertainment award for raising more than $8 million in aid of bushfire and flood victims.

Sound Relief is up for Best Special Event in the annual Helpmann Awards for the simultaneous Melbourne and Sydney shows which attracted full houses at the MCG and SCG, plus a host of Australian and international acts to perform for free.

Kylie Minogue has also earned a nomination, this time for Best Australian Contemporary Concert, where she will be up against Paul Kelly and recent ARIA award winner Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Cate Blanchett has been nominated for Best Female Actor in a Play, for her role in her Sydney Theatre Company's War of the Roses.

The Helpmann Awards - named in honour of actor, dancer, choreographer and director, the late Sir Robert Helpmann - will be announced on July 27 in Sydney.
