Jack and Mia are the most popular baby names in Australia.
Jack topped the boys' list, followed by William and Lachlan; with Mia ahead of Chloe and Isabella in the popularity stakes for girls.
Jack has been the most popular name seven times in the past nine years - and the past five years in a row, according to McCrindle Research, which released the 2008 baby names list.
Social researcher Mark McCrindle says the fashion of names has changed in a generation - in 1950, John was the most popular boy's name but is now ranked 80th.
"Now that Generation X are parents, they're showing their conservative side," Mr McCrindle said in a statement.
"Today's parents are avoiding gender neutral names ... yet there is a creativity in their conservatism with the traditional names sharing the top 10.
The top 10 list for boys in 2008 was Jack, William, Lachlan, Joshua, Riley, Thomas, Cooper, Oliver, James and Ethan.
The top 10 girls names were Mia, Chloe, Isabella, Charlotte, Emily, Ella, Olivia, Sienna, Ava and Sophie.AAP
