A second wave of swine flu is possible, making it important that people be vaccinated against the disease, Queensland Health has warned.
Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said the northern hemisphere experience of human swine flu continuing to spread during their summer shows how it is necessary to be vaccinated.
"We are still seeing a trickle of cases being reported (in Queensland), some requiring hospitalisation," Dr Young said.
"The virus is still in our community and more significantly is on the upsurge in the northern hemisphere as they go into winter.
"A second wave in Australia cannot be ruled out, particularly with the Christmas-New Year holiday season approaching and people travelling to and from the northern hemisphere."
Dr Young said those who think they have had human swine flu, but were not tested as positive, should still be vaccinated against the virus.
Swine flu-related illnesses have claimed 41 lives in Queensland.
