Christchurch jolted by 4.2 quake

An earthquake measuring 4.2 has jolted Christchurch.

The quake struck just offshore, 10km east of the city at a depth of 9km, at 6.47pm local time on Sunday.

Geonet said it was a strong quake felt throughout the Christchurch area.

It followed a magnitude 4.3 earthquake in the city on Saturday morning, which was also centred 10km east of the city at a depth of 9km.
