Person critical after train and car crash

A critically injured person is trapped inside a car after a train hit the vehicle in the Waikato town of Morrinsville on Sunday night.

Emergency services are trying to free the person following the crash on Piako Road and State Highway 26, a statement from police says.

An Ambulance northern communications spokeswoman told NZ Newswire one critically injured person is trapped inside the car. No other injuries have been reported.

Traffic diversions are in place.
