Police checkpoints around Auckland have breath tested more than 16,000 drivers in the past few nights.
100 drivers failed, including 41 who were over the limit on Thursday and Friday mornings while those around them on the road were on their way to work.
Police say many of those over the limit had driven from other parts of the Auckland Region, and were already drunk before they reached the CBD.
