Three nabbed in Rodney drug bust

NZPA November 4, 2009, 6:52 pm

Three people were arrested after a drug bust in the Rodney district today.

Three simultaneous searches were carried out at properties in Waiwera, Waitoki and Whangaparaoa today, revealing a sophisticated hydroponics cannabis growing set up, dried cannabis ready for distribution and an illegal firearm and ammunition.

A 39-year-old Whangaparaoa man was charged with cultivation of cannabis for supply and possession of cannabis for supply.

A 35-year-old Waiwera woman was charged with possession of cannabis for supply and a 45-year-old Waitoki man was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The arrests come amidst a crack-down on cultivation and production of illegal drugs in the Rodney district.

"If you are in the business of cultivating cannabis for supply or the production of other illegal drugs within Rodney then expect the police to be through your door soon," Inspector Keith Brady said.
