NZ Newswire February 25, 2012, 1:44 pm

A search is under way for a New Zealand tourist missing off the north Queensland coast.

Water police and a rescue helicopter are searching an area of the Whitsunday islands after a man fell from his vessel overnight.

Police say the man fell from a boat moored at Marcona Inlet, at Hook Island, around 12.50am (AEST) on Saturday.

RACQ Central Queensland Rescue says the missing man is a tourist from New Zealand who was aboard a charter boat.

There were storms in the area at the time he fell overboard, a spokesman said.
