The body of a missing American scuba diver has been found off the Kaikoura coast.
The 32-year-old man, who had been diving with friends off Omihi camping ground south of Kaikoura, went missing on Saturday evening after he went to search for paua on a rocky shelf.
The sea was relatively calm when the man vanished.
A search and rescue operation was launched on Saturday night, but the man's body was not found until about 12.30pm on Sunday.
Sergeant Barry Hansen told NZ Newswire the man's body was found about 70m offshore.
