A man is missing after jumping into a estuary in Greymouth while being chased by police early on Saturday morning.
A search of the estuary in the suburb if Cobden north of Greymouth failed to find the man. The search was due to resume at first light.
The man sped away from police when they tried to stop him for a traffic offence at about 12.30am but lost control and slid off the road soon after.
He ran off and police heard calls from help from the water.
