NZ Newswire May 11, 2012, 6:30 pm

An Australian man has been charged with murdering a New Zealand woman in a small northern New South Wales town.

Adam John Kennedy, 24, is accused of murdering the 43-year-old woman whose body was allegedly found at his home in Bowraville, about 100km north of the coastal town of Port Macquarie.

Police allege the woman suffered serious head injuries prior to her death, Australia's Coffs Coast Advocate reports.

The woman's body was found last Friday.

Kennedy appeared in the Port Macquarie Local Court this week facing a murder charge and other drug and firearm charges.

He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear on June 21.
