The 39-year-old Nelson woman found dead in her Richmond home on Thursday has been named by police.
She was Sharyn Wilkinson-Foley.
Her body remained in her house on Saturday while forensic experts examined the scene of the suspected homicide.
Ms Wilkinson-Foley was the victim of an assault.
Police are not saying what her injuries were or if a weapon was used. They say there was no sign of a break-in.
They did say they wanted to speak to her former partner. However, a police spokeswoman told NZ Newswire on Saturday they were speaking to a large number of people and the former partner was by no means a major suspect.
She was not sure if police had managed to catch up with him.
Police cut the power to the immediate area on Friday night to help them with forensic testing. They wanted the house to be as dark as possible with no external light, the spokeswoman said.
