Murder charge following Timaru death

A man has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of man found in a Timaru street.

The 25-year-old South Canterbury man was arrested on Friday and appeared in Timaru District Court on Saturday morning, police said.

He did not enter a plea, was granted interim name suppression and will be kept in custody until another appearance on Monday.

The 28-year-old victim was found in York Street in the suburb of Seaview early on Friday morning. His name has not yet been released and police are not saying how he died.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out in Christchurch.
