Police divers have recovered the body of a truck driver from a swollen river off the Napier-Taihape road.

The 47-year-old man's body was found in the submerged cab on Tuesday afternoon, after his truck crashed 50 metres down a bank and into the Moawhango River, about 30 kilometres northeast of Taihape.

His wife reported him missing after he failed to return home on Monday night following a trip to the Hawke's Bay.

A fellow truck driver spotted his truck in the river on Tuesday morning after seeing skid marks on the road.

Another man was killed on Tuesday afternoon when his car collided with a logging truck, about 18km south of Kawakawa in Northland.

The road toll so far this year stands at 108, compared to 104 at the same time last year.
