A man accused of fleecing more than $A16 million from Queensland Health is being promoted as a drawcard on an episode of New Zealand reality TV show The GC.

Hohepa Morehu-Barlow, also known as Joel Barlow, was arrested in December and charged with defrauding the Australian government department while working there between 2007 and 2011.

Before being arrested, Barlow lived an extravagant lifestyle and told people he was a wealthy Tahitian prince.

A promotional video for this week's episode of The GC, a show which follows the lives of a group of Maori living in the Gold Coast - known as "Mozzies" - reveals one of the male characters is set up on a blind date with "a part-Maori Tahitian Prince".

A TV3 spokeswoman confirmed to NZ Newswire that the "prince" is Barlow.

She says viewers are warned there's a twist to the episode which will air on Wednesday evening.

The GC series was filmed in October and November last year, before Barlow's arrest.

Barlow's charges include two counts of aggravated fraud, two of aggravated forgery, one of aggravated uttering, two of possessing dangerous drugs, one of possessing a relevant substance and one of possessing drug utensils.

The 36-year-old was committed to stand trial earlier this year on all charges.

On Monday defence lawyer Neil Lawler told the Brisbane District Court he would no longer be representing Barlow.

He said he understood Barlow had obtained new lawyers, but said he was unaware of who they were.

Barlow, who is in custody, was ordered to appear in court next week for another mention to discuss his representation.
