She was looking for love in the library but may have been caught out went she tried to sell that love online.

A Hamilton woman has been accused of stealing nearly 600 books from the local libray - most of them romance novels.

Katrina Fay Clement, 40, appeared in Hamilton District Court on Thursday, accused of stealing 579 books, valued at $12,780, between 2008 and 2010, the Waikato Times reports.

The alleged offending was uncovered after Trade Me alerted police to the suspicious activities of one seller.

Clement has not entered a plea and will appear in court again next month.
