Gisborne forest claims another life

NZ Newswire June 26, 2012, 5:38 pm

A forestry worker has been killed in a logging accident south of Gisborne.

The 44-year-old man was killed in the Wharerata Ranges when a log fell on his back on Tuesday morning.

The man's name has not been released while police contact his family.

It is the third forestry-related death in the area in about 18 months.

In October last year, 34-year-old Kenny Callow was killed by a falling pine in the forest, while another forestry worker, 19-year-old James Goodfellow, was killed in the same forest in December, 2010.

The Department of Labour is investigating the latest death.
