Murder charge after woman found stabbed

NZ Newswire Updated July 20, 2012, 7:16 pm

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a woman's body was found in the driveway of a Tauranga property.

Police were called to an address in the suburb of Judea just after 2pm on Friday, after a member of the public reported a dispute between a man and a woman outside a house.

When police arrived, they found the woman's body in the driveway.

A 64-year-old man will appear in Tauranga District Court on Saturday morning charged with murder, police say.

The scene has been cordoned off and a police guard will remain in place on Friday night.

A forensic examination will take place on Saturday.

Once that examination has been completed, the woman's body can be removed and a post-mortem will be held to establish the cause of death.

Police are still working to find the woman's next of kin.

It's understood that the man and the woman involved in the dispute were known to each other.

The woman was believed to have been stabbed to death in a violent domestic incident, the Bay of Plenty Times reported.
