No laptops for `high-tech' managers

NZ Newswire August 23, 2012, 5:05 am

Housing New Zealand's "high-tech" tenancy managers don't have laptops and have to share smart phones, it's been revealed.

Labour's housing spokeswoman Annette King says government claims about bringing HNZ into the 21st century are nonsense.

She's challenging Housing Minister Phil Heatley to justify his "huge" $40 million IT spend-up.

"According to the minister much of the spend went on kitting out tenancy managers with new laptops and cell phones to introduce a `new and smarter' way of doing business," she said.

"But Housing New Zealand has now confirmed that staff have never had laptops and are even having to share smart phones and cameras."

Ms King says the $40m investment should have translated into a better service for tenants, but it didn't.
