19 killed after lift plummets 30 floors

An elevator at a construction site in China has plummeted to the ground.

The accident happened on Thursday morning in Wuhan City, as reported by the government's Xinhua News Agency.

The platform, used to carry workers to the upper stories of a building under construction, dropped more than 30 floors in free-fall, killing all 19 people all on board.

According to the Washington Post, the lift fell 100 metres.

More than 75,500 people were killed in work-related accidents last year, and getting workmen to follow regulation is a difficult task, according to Chinese State Administration for Work Safety.
