Tsunami money to be handed over

Newstalk ZB November 8, 2009, 4:47 am

A cheque for $315,000 will be handed to the Samoan government today, all of it donated by the New Zealand public.

The huge sum was collected for tsunami relief, in donations to Westpac Bank branches over the past five weeks.

Pacific Cooperation Foundation chairman Fa'amatuainu Tino Pereira says it is a stunning amount, and shows how generous New Zealanders can be.

He says it shows how much the community cares, especially when there is a lot of other fundraising going on at the same time.

The money will be handed over to the Samoan Prime Minister at a special ceremony this morning at 11 o'clock.
