Brothel near school to stay open

Newstalk ZB January 28, 2012, 7:42 am

An unlicensed brothel near a central Auckland school is being allowed to operate while the council processes a resource consent application.

The establishment can operate near the school because the area is zoned for mixed business use and brothels are classed as 'entertainment facilities'.

People living near Firecats Escorts are campaigning against the brothel, which is being run from an apartment in Brown Street near Richmond Road Primary School.

It has to apply for resource consent because it's within 30 metres of a residential zone.

The application has been on hold since Auckland Council asked the brothel's owners for more information.

They have 15 working days to respond, but the business can still operate in the meantime.
