Police have confirmed the debris found on Secretary Island off the coast of Fiordland is from the missing crayfishing boat K'Cee.
The boat, which police say was carrying skipper Bruce Gordon, 42, and crew member Darren Allen, 37, has not been heard from since 8.15am on Monday and was reported missing about 9.30am on Tuesday.
The fishermen remain missing and hopes for their safety are fading.
"Police have confirmed the wreckage located south of Rocky Point on Secretary Island has been identified as coming from the missing fishing vessel K'Cee," Inspector Lane Todd of Invercargill said.
The search includes three helicopters, four local vessels and a Department of Conservation support vessel, and will be joined by an Air Force Orion late on Tuesday.
A Maritime New Zealand Rescue Co-ordination spokesman says the search is a "category one".
