Libraries across Auckland have been inundated with requests for a book dubbed 'Mummy porn' that's banned in America.

Fairfax reports there are 50 copies of the romance trilogy, which is banned in America, in libraries across Auckland.

But the first book of the series is in high demand with a growing waiting list at 706.

The books, by E.L James, have topped the New York Times' best sellers list.

Fifty Shades of Grey has sold for $1.29 million in a deal with publisher Random House.

Described as a Twilight for adults, the book features a plot full of bondage and wild sex between a broken billionaire and his love interest.
