Boy charged after alleged gun incident

NZ Newswire May 29, 2012, 4:35 pm

The 14-year-old boy who allegedly entered a Paeroa classroom wielding a plastic spring-loaded imitation pistol and shot a student has been charged.

The boy, who was set to appear in the Hamilton Youth Court on Tuesday, is facing five charges, police say.

The charges include two of assault with a weapon and three firearms charges.

Police allege the boy went into a classroom at Paeroa College on Monday morning with a bandanna over his face and threatened a student in the class by pointing the pistol at him.

It's alleged the boy then pointed the imitation firearm at the victim and shot him three times about the head and face.

A teacher who intervened in the situation was also fired at, police allege.

The teacher was able to restrain the boy and disarm him, police say.

The teacher's actions have been praised by police.
