Welsh police appealing to members of the public to help identify a man whose body was found floating under a waterfall say the man could be a New Zealander.

The body of the man, described as a caucasian in his 60s, was pulled from the water on May 23 at Rhiwargor Waterfall - a popular attraction for local and international tourists - near Lake Vymwy in Llanwddyn in Wales.

A statement from Welsh police says the man had been in the water for up to four weeks before he was found.

It is thought the man could be a New Zealander because he was wearing a watch with picture of a silver fern on the clock face.

The man is 180cm tall, weighs 94kg and has ginger or light coloured hair. He also has a distinctive curved scar across his stomach.

"We are urgently trying to identify him so that his next of kin can be informed and arrangements made for his funeral," Detective Inspector Diane Davies of Dyfed Powys Police said.

"We have been in contact with all other police forces throughout the country but potential identities have now been exhausted."

A post-mortem has been carried out but police are yet to release the cause of death. The death is not considered suspicious.
