An 18-year-old man has admitted stabbing two tourists in Taupo earlier this month.

Jason Jordan McKenzie pleaded guilty on Thursday to two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Rotorua District Court.

McKenzie has been remanded in custody for sentencing next month, APNZ reports.

The tourists, a 42-year-old man from Whanganui and a 24-year-old Australian man, were stabbed in separate incidents on June 7.

Both men were airlifted to Rotorua Hospital.

The Whanganui man was treated and discharged, while the Australian man returned home two days later.
