Legal advice sought after pageant row heats up

The winner of the Miss Universe New Zealand beauty pageant has reportedly called in lawyers after being asked to give up her crown.

Avianca Bohm, the 22-year-old Miss Howick, was crowned earlier this month.

Since then, there has been skepticism over whether she is eligible as she is South African and does not have New Zealand citizenship.

In order for her to travel to the Miss Universe pageant, she will need a New Zealand passport.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the Miss Universe New Zealand pageant organiser Val Lott delivered Ms Bohm a letter advising her she is unable to represent New Zealand.

Ms Bohm has sought legal advice.
