NZ Newswire June 17, 2012, 1:37 pm

An unwell pilot has forced an Air New Zealand flight bound for Auckland to return to Los Angeles.

A doctor on board the flight was able to assist the pilot, Air New Zealand says.

The Boeing 777-300 aircraft, with 316 passengers on board, returned to Los Angeles on Saturday night (NZT).

Crew requirements meant the passengers were provided with hotel accommodation in Los Angeles overnight.

The flight will depart again for Auckland on Sunday afternoon.
