The 10 targets the government expects the public service to achieve over the next five years:
- Reducing the number of people receiving working-age benefits for more than 12 months by 30 per cent, from 78,000 to 55,000
- Increasing participation in early childhood education from the current 94.7 per cent to 98 per cent
- Increasing infant immunisation rates from the current 92.8 per cent to 95 per cent, and maintaining it
- Halting the 10-year rise in children experiencing physical abuse and reducing the current number by 5 per cent, meaning about 1000 on projected figures
- Increasing to 85 per cent the proportion of 18-year-olds with NCEA Level 2, compared with 67 per cent for 2010
- Increasing the proportion of 25 to 34-year-olds with advanced trade qualifications to 55 per cent from the current 52 per cent
- Reducing the crime rate by 15 per cent, which means 45,000 fewer crimes a year, and reducing violent crime by 20 per cent - 7500 fewer violent crimes a year
- Reducing reoffending by 25 per cent, which means 600 fewer prisoners and 18,500 fewer victims of crime
- Reducing the business costs of dealing with the government by 25 per cent through a one-stop online programme
- Increasing the efficiency of transactions with the government so that 70 per cent are carried out digitally, up from 24 per cent currently.
