Christchurch police have arrested and charged a man with murder after a woman's body was found in an earthquake-damaged house in the suburb of Burwood.
The woman's body was found in the Travis Road house on Wednesday morning.
A 29-year-old Kaiapoi man was interviewed in the afternoon and charged with her murder in the evening, Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill said in a statement.
He will appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
The woman has not been named while her next-of-kin are informed and a post-mortem will be carried out on Thursday.
Police are not yet saying how old she was or whether she and the charged man were living at the house.
"We are continuing to talk to people associated with the victim and our forensic work will also continue for some time as we put together a picture of what has occurred," Det Snr Sgt Hill said.
A team of 20 investigators along with forensics staff are working on the homicide investigation.
They are likely to be at the house for several days.
