The 29-year-old Kaiapoi man charged with murdering a woman whose body was found in the Christchurch suburb of Burwood has been granted name suppression while he undergoes psychiatric assessment.
The man appeared in Christchurch District Court on Thursday, after he was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday evening.
The name of the woman, along all background and details of the case, have also been suppressed by Judge Robert Murfitt.
The man has been remanded in custody until July 26 while a psychiatric report is prepared, Christchurch Court News reports.
The woman's body was found at a property in Travis Rd on Wednesday morning.
It's expected a post-mortem examination will be carried out on Thursday.
A team of 20 police along with forensic staff are working on the homicide investigation.
