NZ Newswire July 29, 2012, 5:46 pm

Police have finished examining an area in and around a Whangarei stream where they believe a 21-year-old woman was murdered.

A Whangarei man has been charged with the murder and is due to appear in court on Monday.

The names of the accused and victim are suppressed.

The woman's body was removed from the Waiarohia stream by Tarewa Road early on Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dene Begbie said in a statement on Sunday evening that police are still seeking assistance from the public and want to speak to anyone who was in the area about 2am on Friday.

Police are also trying to find the victim's black LG model A180 cellphone which she had with her before the alleged attack.
