NZ Newswire August 7, 2012, 12:57 pm

A female Otago police officer had her nose broken when an arrested man she was taking to a patrol car allegedly head butted her following a domestic dispute, police say.

Police were called to an alleged assault at a house in Mosgiel on Monday night and they arrested a 43-year-old Dunedin man.

The female constable was taking the handcuffed man to the patrol car, about 40 metres from the house, when he allegedly head butted her.

She suffered a broken nose and was taken to hospital. It is not known when she will be back at work, said Dunedin area commander Inspector Greg Sparrow.

The man is facing one charge each of resisting arrest, injuring with intent to injure, and common assault.
