Dead driver was 'drag-racing'

NZ Newswire Updated November 19, 2012, 8:11 am

A man has been killed in a car that lost control in a drag race in Taranaki, police say.

The car hit a bank around 7.15pm on Friday on Fairfield Road on the outskirts of Hawera, a central communications police spokesman said.

It is believed the driver was drag-racing with another car on the long straight road and alcohol may have been involved.

The serious crash unit is at the scene on Saturday.
