Police investigating the death of a woman at Western Springs in Auckland say they are now considering the case as homicide.

The deceased woman has still not been formally identified, due to the advanced decomposition of the body, but police believe they know who she is.

"A post mortem this morning revealed that the woman's death was caused by someone else," said Inspector Cornelius Kluessien, who added that officers were trying to contact the woman's family overseas.
