Fears knife-wielding robber may strike again

NZPA November 4, 2009, 9:10 am

A digital sketch of a man wanted for stabbing a Napier liquor store worker has been released as police fear that he could strike again.

Jimmy Cross was stabbed in the chest without warning by a robber in the suburban Taradale Mill liquor store last Wednesday night.

Police hoped the picture would jog the memories of people who may have seen suspicious events around the shop last week, Detective Sergeant Emmet Lynch said.

"We believe someone will have knowledge of who was involved in this crime and the image may further cement their suspicions.

"We need to find this offender and make sure his actions are not repeated."

Mr Cross and a fellow worker, identified only as Phil, were preparing to close the store when two men walked in demanding money.

Phil said Mr Cross was never given a chance to open the till before he was stabbed.

Mr Lynch said police had recovered a knife at the scene and identified a four-door sedan involved with the robbery.
