Cooler weather conditions have helped firefighters gain the upper hand on fires burning north of Newcastle and in the Hunter Valley.
Firefighters were still working on a bushfire burning in the area of Martens and Rosemount avenues at Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle.
"Homes were threatened on Tuesday afternoon but firefighters protected all of the homes and there was no damage," Rebel Talbert, spokeswoman for the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) told AAP on Wednesday.
"The fire has moved past the area where the homes are, so it is not threatening homes.
"Cooler weather conditions have assisted with containment efforts."
About 50 firefighters will work on the southern edge of the fire and a water-bombing aircraft will support ground crews on Wednesday.
Smoke may affect residents in the area and motorists are advised to take appropriate precautions when driving.
Meanwhile, another fire that threatened homes on a road in the upper Hunter Valley was contained on Tuesday afternoon after burning out 15 hectares of bushland.
The RFS said firefighters on Wednesday would continue to patrol the area around Rosemount Road and Reg Thornton Memorial Drive in Denman.
