Mother sentenced for cruelty to children

Newstalk ZB November 4, 2009, 3:50 pm

A mother of eight has been ordered to take a parenting course as part of her sentence for cruelty towards her children.

The 33-year-old woman received six months home detention for cruelty by willful neglect at the High Court in Auckland.

She was on trial along with her husband, who has already been sentenced to two years and nine months for assaulting and neglecting their children.

The couple have permanent name suppression to protect the identities of their children.

Their charges were downgraded during the trial, after their eldest daughter admitted she had made up a story about three men paying her dad $40 to sexually assault her outside a South Auckland McDonalds.
