The man caught in the middle of a heated disagreement between Invercargill's mayor and deputy says the whole council is shocked about the developments.
Mayor Tim Shadbolt says he has lost all confidence in his deputy Neil Boniface and wants him to stand down.
Councillor Geoff Piercy says he was asked to take the deputy mayoral spot, but turned it down once he found out about the feud. He does not think any of the councillors support Mr Shadbolt's stance.Mr Piercy does not know what has caused the friction. He describes Neil Boniface as a loyal and hard working deputy who has defended the mayor.
