A rape prevention educator is worried a high profile musician who forced a teenage girl's face into his genitals, may offend again.
The New Zealand entertainer escaped a conviction and was given permanent name suppression when he was sentenced in the Auckland District Court yesterday. Judge Eddie Paul said publicity would have a detrimental effect on his career.
But Kim McGregor from Rape Crisis says the effects on the offender are irrelevant when you are looking at safety in the community. She says unless the man has some form of treatment there is no reason to believe he will not reoffend. Ms McGregor says the verdict sends the message that if you are famous and commit a crime you can be protected.
